Southwire, one of the nation’s largest cable manufacturers and distributors, sought and was granted approval to participate in the Douglas County tax savings incentive plan as part of its expansion plans for its Villa Rica distribution facilities. Ten years ago, Southwire began looking for a location to move its copper wire and cable product distribution facilities. They found a home in Douglas County. After several years of continued success and growth, the company has found an increased need to expand its Villa Rica facility. With this approval, Southwire will add, along with 10 million dollars of investment, 60 new jobs to its current 80 job offerings. The hiring process will likely begin in 2016, and will average $17.50/hr, which is about $1.30 more than the county average. Southwire anticipates constuction to begin later this year.
